Akron Spanish Academy Mission

Akron, Ohio is located in the northeastern area of the state, between Cleveland to the north and Canton to the south. It is considered Canton, Ohio’s sister city, so the cities are generally referred to as a single metropolitan area. Akron’s importance as a historical manufacturing center due to its location near the Ohio and Erie Canal is the reason for its establishment and early growth.

Akron’s location in a populous Ohio area and in reach of other cities, notably Cleveland, along with its own diverse composition, affords Hispanic/Latino residents and those interested in the culture a variety of Spanish-themed and influenced activities. For example, the Akron area offers a variety of Latin/Mexican dining options for the highly-sought cuisine of South America, and the Akron Art Museum features several exhibits and collections annually of Latino influence, as well as accommodations for Spanish native speakers.

Akron’s diversity, opportunities, and Latino traditions are a few of the many reasons children would benefit from learning Spanish; to know the language and familiarize themselves with the culture would be a tremendous benefit.
